Card players, old and young

 Jardim Principe Real
 card players in the jardim
card players in the train

The Urbansketchers Symposium at Lisbon came and went in a cloud of excitement and sharing.
Sharing of drawings, tips and tools, find out more here and here.
I needed a quiet day with no people around me just to try and take in all those days were people that loved drawing were together to share their knowledge and skills with other people that loved drawing and were there to share their knowledge and skills. And that's how it went for three full days, there were no better or worse just different ways of looking and documenting the world around.
For that last day in Lisbon I chose the gardens of Principe Real because of its centenary trees. The card players were a happy discovery even if they were reluctant at the beginning to let me sketch them some finally agreed and I didn't sketch the grumpy ones. But when they saw it finished they loved it and thought it was something out of old times.
The funny thing is that the same day in the train taking me to the south a bunch of young Italians sat in the train's bar and started playing cards, they didn't mind at all that I sketched them and they loved the result even if I had to leave it half way as I had reached my station.

nose operation

This post is dedicated to my doctor.

Most of these are people waiting at Hospitals or Health Centers.

I had a minor operation, one of the reasons why I travelled home and I had to have lots of examinations before to make sure everything else was fine and then you have to sign this paper that if anything goes wrong and you die you take responsability.

So I had to do lung x-ray, heart thing (above) and I don't know what else.

The Dr that operated me has a reputation for really loving the "knife", that is for cutting bits off noses, throats and ears. But he is a great expert and a very human person looking up to his patients as people and not numbers and working long hours everyday.

My operation went fine. He put my the inside of my nose back straight and now I can breath again from both nostrils. It had gone sideways years ago when it got hit by my surf board.

I looked quite fine after the operation and my nose is just that little bit swollen. He had to hit the bone as it was twarted as well. those things on the side layed on my nose for a week and were the most uncorfatable part of all but as he popped them out I felt like a new woman, just hope that my smell will became double the strenght of before!!
Good Easter all and hope to see some of you for sketchcrawl Saturday at Largo Camões, Lisbon at 3 pm.

Portugal

This afternoon I'll be trying to enter the Olympique Stadium at Nouakchott where there will be Abdelazize, the President of Mauritania since the "coup d'état" of last August, SidiAbdallai the ancient president and the forces of opposition plus the honour guest the Head of the African Union, Kadafi, if I get in I'll sketch and post it at Urbansketchers.
Otherwise I'm leaving tomorrow by bus to Portugal, around 3.000 km crossing Western Sahara, Marocco and a bit of Spain and expect to take 10 days. The bus a bright yellow one belongs to a french family that drive down a couple of times a year to do some humanitary work in a village in Senegal.
Hopefully I'll sketch as I go so for a while there won't be any posting.
I post this images from my last visit to Portugal. I hope to be back in a couple of weeks with new drawings from my trip, thank you all for visiting and commenting.
